What is Yamashiro Bussan?

From Yamashiro, the “hometown of Japanese tea”
Enjoy really good tea at home. Feel free.

Yamashiro Bussan was founded in 1960. Since then, the company has been producing high-quality tea at its factory in Wazuka Town, Kyoto Prefecture, a famous producer of Uji tea in the Yamashiro region, known as the "hometown of Japanese tea." As a newcomer to the long-established tea industry, founder Shigeyuki Tsuji continued to challenge the conventional wisdom of the industry with his innovative ideas and plans.
Yamashiro Bussan was also the first tea manufacturer to use polyethylene plastic packaging in the tea industry, which had previously used paper packaging. This was done to lock in the fresh aroma, maintain quality, and improve hygiene.
Yamashiro Bussan values above all else the ease with which people can enjoy high-quality tea at home. And to create relaxing, comfortable moments. Even in today's world where lifestyles are constantly changing, we will continue to convey new ways to enjoy tea that are in tune with the times.

About Uji Wazuka Town, where the "Chagenkyo" factory is located

Wazuka Town, with tea fields stretching as far as the eye can see, is known as the "Tea Source Country." It is characterized by a climate with a lot of rain, large temperature differences between day and night, and fertile soil with good drainage. It is also blessed with the Wazuka River, upstream of the Kizu River. With river mist forming in the mornings, Wazuka Town offers the perfect environment for tea cultivation. The amount of tea produced here accounts for half of Uji tea. Its history as a Japanese tea producing region is long, dating back to the Kamakura period.
As the production and supply system for high-quality tea was established, tea fields were cultivated using a method called "yamanari kaikon" that took advantage of the terrain, and the landscape was formed. Even today, this tradition is carried on and a variety of high-quality tea is produced.

The quality of Yamashiro Bussan products is supported by the skills of tea masters

Yamashiro Bussan develops tea in partnership with tea farmers in famous tea producing areas all over Japan, as well as in Wazuka Town, Kyoto, where the factory is located. The finished product of tea varies depending on the tea producing area, variety, and producer. There is a huge variety, including tea with a strong fragrance, rich flavor, and vibrant color.
Also, because it is an agricultural product, it is affected by the climate and temperature of the year, and the quality is not always the same. In order to make such tea leaves into a stable product, the tea master's "aigumi" technique, in which the master blends the tea leaves by sensing their characteristics with his eyes, nose, tongue, and hands, is essential. Yamashiro Bussan will continue to provide delicious tea with the highly skilled tea masters and thorough quality control.

Message from the CEO

A time of peace and tranquility at home.
I want to create.

When I was a child, tea was something we brewed at home and was familiar to us. When we visited our relatives, it was natural that tea brewed in a teapot was served, and I think that the taste and aroma of tea were a set for family gatherings. However, now tea bags and bottled drinks account for the majority of tea consumption, and the number of households with teapots has decreased. People in their teens to thirties in particular are becoming less familiar with teapots, and I feel that the habit of "brewing tea and taking a break" is starting to disappear. What we want to provide is such a relaxing time at home. We would like to convey the joy of tea in a flexible way that suits the times and protect a rich life with tea.
