Wazuka Town in Kyoto Prefecture, where clear streams still flow, green mountains, and rolling hills of tea plantations continue, has long been known as a major producer of Uji tea.

To turn the high-quality tea leaves grown in tea fields surrounded by lush nature into delicious roasted green tea, tea master Maeno Toshihiro, winner of the individual division of the 50th National Tea Judging Skills Competition and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award, used his expert techniques to roast the leaves to create a fragrant, robust flavor .

Hojicha is made by roasting the stems, called karigane, at just the right temperature to bring out their fragrant aroma and sweetness. You may be surprised by the color of the tea leaves.
